Prerequisites Corequisite(s): BIOL 2301.
Prerequisite(s): TSI complete in reading    Basic skills and competency in reading, writing, and math.
Learning Outcomes 1. Demonstrate an understanding of anatomical terminology, the role of the cell and cell membrane in maintaining homeostasis, the function of cellular organelles, and the organization and function of the skin. (PSLO 1, 2, 3, and alpha) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

2. Demonstrates an understanding of the functions and organization of the bones of the axial and appendicular skeleton and associated landmarks and terminology. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments

3. Demonstrate an understanding of the location of specific muscles of the muscular system as well as the organization and function of skeletal muscle. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

4. Demonstrate an understanding of the structures of the various components of the central and peripheral nervous systems, and sensory organs in the body. (PSLOs 1, 2, 3) Measured by embedded questions, pre-post test questions, and/or assignments.

5. Demonstrate an understanding of reading material including relevant terminology. (PSLO alpha) measured by pre-post test questions.

6. Demonstrate an ability to work effectively with fellow students to complete/cover assigned material. (PSLO 4) Measured by group assignments in the lab portion of the course.

Core Objectives * Communication skills: Students will demonstrate effective written, oral and visual communication.

* Empirical and Quantitative Skills: Students will demonstrate applications of scientific and mathematical concepts.

* Teamwork: Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal and consider different points of view.

* PSLO Alpha: Reading Skills-Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material.
Program Student Learning Outcomes PSLO ALPHA: Reading skills - Demonstrates comprehension of content-area reading material.
Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading.
PSLO 1: Critical Thinking Skills οΏ½ Uses creative thinking, innovation, inquiry and analysis, evaluation and synthesis of information.
Creatively identifies problem, argument, or issue (to determine extent of information needed); differentiates the facts from opinions as relates to situation; constructs possible solutions or prediction or consequences; uses logical, sound reasoning to justify conclusion.
PSLO 2: Communication Skills οΏ½ Demonstrates effective development, interpretation and expression of ideas through written, oral and/or visual communication.
Expresses a strong thesis; organizes information with effective transitions & sequencing of ideas; uses substantial, logical & specific development of ideas; details are relevant, original, credible and correctly documented when appropriate to show an effective development and interpretation of ideas; and presents ideas in appropriate mode of expression for the task.
PSLO3: Empirical and Quantitative Skills οΏ½ Applies the manipulation and/or analysis of numerical data or observable facts resulting in informed conclusions.
Identifies mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task; uses mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task; analyzes how to use the principles; and applies problem-solving skills in mathematical or scientific principles needed to complete task with correct informed conclusions.
PSLO 4: Teamwork Skills- Shows the ability to consider different points of view and to work effectively with others to support a shared purpose or goal.
Helps the team move forward by discussing merits of alternative ideas; Treats team members respectfully; uses positive facial, vocal or written tone, or language to convey a positive attitude; Motivates teammates by expressing confidence about the importance of the task; Provides assistance/encouragement to team members; Completes all assigned tasks by deadline; Addresses conflict constructively; or helps the group avoid conflict completely.

Textbooks The REQUIRED workbook for the Bio 2101 lab (A&P1) is Workbook to Accompany Anatomy & Physiology Revealed, Version 3.2, 3rd edition, by Robert B. Broyles, Jr., McGraw Hill Higher Ed., ISBN 978-1-260-17014-6. This is a new edition of the workbook. The page numbers given in the lab assignments are for the Version 3.2. The previous edition, (version 3.0) will not work due to the differences in page numbers.
An access code for the Anatomy & Physiology Revealed website is also REQUIRED. The access code can also be purchased online directly from McGraw Hill on the A&P Revealed website. The instructions for the online purchase are posted in the Course Information folder on the course website.
